Here's a pic of Jim's latest cannon using this system.  Sorry for the delay Jim

WELCOME TO THE BERGLES BARREL SYSTEM.  WITH PROPER CARE AND USE THIS WILL LAST A LONG TIME. THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT ONLY. IF YOU CHOOSE TO BUILD THE AIR CANNON, IT IS YOUR SOLE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ACTION DONE WITH IT AND ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. DO NOT SHOOT THIS CANNON DIRECTLY AT ANOTHER PERSON. IT IS MADE TO LOB PAINT OVER OBJECTS AND LONG DISTANCES. THE PAINT SHOULD RAIN DOWN INSTEAD OF DIRECT FRONTAL SHOTS. ALL FITTINGS AND PIPE USED MUST BE SCHEDULE 40 PVC. THE FITTINGS SHOULD BE PRESSURE FITTINGS NOT STANDARD PLUMBING FITTINGS. PRESSURE FITTINGS HAVE A DEEPER HUB AND BETTER SIDEWALL STRENGTH. MAKE SURE TO USE A GOOD QUALITY GLUE AND CLEANER. SPEND THE EXTRA AND GET THE GLUE AND CLEANER BY THE QUART. WHEN GLUING FITTINGS MAKE SURE TO CLEAN THEM PROPERLY AND TO LET DRY BEFORE ADDING GLUE. ONCE GLUED HOLD IN PLACE FOR 10 TO 20 SECONDS SO FITTING DO NOT BACK OUT OR MOVE. ONCE YOU HAVE THIS BUILT IT CAN BE MOUNTED BY THE YOKES THAT STICK OUT EACH SIDE. A TRADITION CANNON MOUNT COULD BE USED. WHEN YOU CHOOSE A SIZE FOR YOUR INNER BARREL MULTIPLY IT BY 2 TO GET THE OUTER SIZE BARREL NEEDED. MY FIRST WAS A 1.5 INCH INNER BARREL SO I USED a 3-INCH OUTER BARREL. ITS UP TO YOU HOW BIG YOU WANT TO GO? BUT THE BIGGER THE BARREL THE MORE AIR IT WILL SUCK.

                     GOOD LUCK!!!!

PARTS REQUIRED

       1)        15 FEET SCHEDULE 40  - 3 INCH PVC PIPE

2)        15 FEET SCHEDULE 40  - 1.5 INCH PIPE

3)        3 REDUCER BUSHINGS     3 INCH TO 1.5 INCH  (NOT THE CONES)

4)        1 SCHEDULE 40 PRESSURE T   - 3 INCH

5)        1 SCHEDULE 40 PRESSURE CROSS 4 WAY   - 3 INCH

6)        2 END CAPS SCHEDULE 40 PRESSURE  - 3 INCH

7)        1 SCHEDULE 40 PRESSURE T - 1.5 INCH

8)        2 SCHEDULE 40 PRESSURE 90DEG ELBOWS Ė 1.5 INCH

9)        1 VALVE OF YOUR CHOICE 1.5 INCH (READ SECTION ON VALVES)

10)     1 THREADED COUPLING BY HUB SCHEDULE 40- 1.5 INCH THIS MEANS ONE SIDE HAS THREADS AND THE OTHER IS A HUB THAT GETS GLUE. YOU CAN USE INSIDE THREADS OR OUTSIDE THREADS. IT IS UP TO YOU. THIS WILL OPEN FOR YOUR BREACH TO LOAD THE PAINT INTO PLACE

11)     1 THREADED PLUG OR CAP TO FIT WHAT YOU USED IN ITEM #10

12)     1 QUART OF GOOD PVC GLUE (CLEAR) AND ONE QUART OF CLEANER

BEFORE STARTING

BEFORE YOU START LAY ALL THE PIECES OUT ON THE FLOOR IN THEIR GENERAL SPOT WHERE THEY WILL GO. MAKE SURE THEY ARE ALL THEIR. YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE RUNNING TO GET MORE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THINGS. AND DONíT USE ANY OLD SEWER PIPE!!! I DO NOT WANT ANY TURD BALLS FLYING AT ME.

ANY PIECE PIPE OR FITTING SHOULD BE CLEANER AND LET TO DRY BEFORE YOU PUT GLUE ON IT. WHEN YOU GLUE IT USE A LOT OF GLUE AND WIPE OFF THE EXCESS AFTER THE PIECE IS IN PLACE. YOU DO NOT WANT ANY VOIDS IN THE JOINTS. ONE WAY TO SOLVE THAT IS TO TURN THE FITTING A ľ TURN TO SMEAR THE GLUE INSIDE THE JOINT AND HOLD IT IN PLACE UNTIL IT SETS UP. MAKE SURE THE FITTING LINES UP BEFORE IT IS DRY.

CANNON SIZE

I HOPE BY NOW YOU KNOW WHAT SIZE YOU WANT AND HAVE PURCHASED THE FITTINGS ACCORDINGLY. JUST MAKE SURE TO DOUBLE THE OUTER SIZE COMPARED TO THE INNER BARREL. THESE DIRECTIONS ARE FOR A 1.5 INCH INNER BARREL WITH A 3 INCH OUTER BARREL. I KNOW ONCE YOU GET UP INTO THE 6-INCH SCHEDULE 40 RANGE THESE FITTINGS START TO GET VERY COSTLY. BUT IF YOU GOT THE MONEY YOU CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN. AND THAT IS MY NEXT CANNON a 6X3 BARREL SYSTEM.

STARTING OUT

DETERMINE WHAT YOUR TOTAL BARREL LENGTH WILL BE FIRST. MY FIRST BARREL THE FRONT SECTION IS 6 FEET LONG. THAT IS IN FRONT OF THE CROSS. BEHIND IT I HAVE 3 FEET WITH THE VALVE ON THE END. THAT ADDS UP TO A 9 FOOT BARREL. VERY HEAVY FOR A 6 WHEELER OR QUAD OR GOLF CART TO HAVE IT MOUNTED THERE. BUY PIPE WITH THE BELL END ON. THIS MAKES FOR A NEAT MUZZLE AT THE END. THE YOKES THAT STICK OUT THE SIDE WILL BE USED FOR MOUNTING THE GUN ONCE IT IS DONE. YOU COULD MAKE THEM   LONGER THAN WHAT I STATED BUT IT WILL JUST TAKE MORE AIR TO FILL. THE PICTURE BELOW IS FROM THE TOP. MOST OF THE REST WILL BE A SIDE VIEW AND THE CROSS-WILL JUST IS A CIRCLE ON THEM. SO LETS GET GOING AND GET THESE PIECES READY. CUT YOUR MAIN BARREL WITH THE BELL ON. IF YOU DONíT HAVE A BELL OR HAVE TO CUT IT OFF JUST INSTALL A COUPLING TO SIZE AND RE-GLUE. CUT TWO YOKE STUBS ABOUT 16 INCHES LONG. CLEAN ALL SURFACES THAT WILL BE GLUED IN THIS STEP. THEN GLUE IN THE MAIN BARREL AND THE STUBS AND GLUE A CAP ON ONE YOKE. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO REACH INSIDE BEFORE IT IS ALL DONE SO LEAVE ONE CAP OFF FOR NOW. I HAVE NOT DECIDED IF THE CENTER OF THE BARREL SHOULD HAVE SOME TYPE OF FOAM UNDER IT TO KEEP IT FROM WOBBLING ON THE INSIDE. ONCE IT IS GLUED IT WONíT COME OUT. BUT IF YOU DONíT LIKE THE INNER BARREL MOVEMENT USE SOME INSULATING FOAM OR SOMETHING TO GO UNDER THE BARREL. DO NOT BLOCK OFF THE FRONT AIR CHAMBER WITH WHAT EVER YOU PUT IN THERE.

ONCE YOU HAVE THEM GLUED IN PLACE IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE THE PICTURE BELOW. IF NOT GIVE UP NOW; YOU HAVE NO PLUMBING SKILLS AT ALL

NEXT STEP

THIS STEP WILL DETERMINE HOW FAR BACK THE VALVE SITS. I HAVE ABOUT 3 FEET BEHIND THE CROSS AND IT IS FRONT HEAVY. LAY THE T DOWN NEXT TO A PIECE OF THE MAIN PIPE AND MEASURE 3 FEET WITH THE T AND MAKE YOUR CUT THERE. REMEMBER THE PIPE WILL GO INTO THE T ABOUT 3 INCHES AND INTO THE CROSS-ABOUT 3 INCHES SO MEASURE FOR THAT DIMENSION. CLEAN ALL JOINTS TO BE GLUED AND ASSEMBLE WHEN DRY. IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE THE SECOND PICTURE BELOW. MAKE SURE THE T IS FLAT TO THE TOP OF THE PIPE. IF YOU CAN PUT AN EVEN SIZE SPACER UNDER EACH YOKE TO LEVEL BARREL FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. YOU CAN THEN LAY A LEVEL ACROSS THE TOP OF THE T WHEN GLUING TO MAKE SURE IT IS PARALLEL TO THE YOKES

NOW GET THE 3 REDUCER BUSHINGS AND A TOOL THAT WILL TRIM OUT THE PIPE STOP ON THE SMALLER DIAMETER. YOU WILL TRIM OUT THE ENTIRE STOP SO THE INNER BARREL WILL SLIDE INTO THESE SNUG BUT NOT LOOSE. IF YOU HAVE THEM TO TIGHT IT COULD LOCK UP DURING GLUING AND WRECK THE PROJECT. THE GLUE WILL HELP THEM SLIDE WHEN THAT TIME COMES. BUT ONLY FOR A LITTLE BIT. MAKE SURE TO USE LOTS OF GLUE WHEN THAT STEP HAPPENS.

ONCE YOU HAVE THEM TRIMMED TO SIZE .THE INNER PIPE SHOULD SLIDE THROUGH. GO AHEAD AND GLUE ONE BUSHING INTO THE MUZZEL END AND ONE INTO THE TOP OF THE BIG T. MAKE SURE NO GLUE GETS ON THE INSIDE AREA OF THE BUSHING. IF GLUE DOES GET INSIDE AND YOU DO NOT SEE IT. YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS WHEN YOU GO TO SLIDE THE PIPE THROUGH IT LATER. JUST TAKE A ROUND FILE AND REMOVE IT.

YOU SHOULD NOW BE THIS FAR ALONG.

NOW TAKE YOUR INNER BARREL PIPE AND SLIDE IT IN FROM THE BACK ALL THE WAY UP TO THE FRONT BUSHING. THE FRONT BUSHING SHOULD BE DRY BY NOW. YOU ARE GOING TO BE PUSHING AGAINST IT SO BE SURE IT IS. MAKE SURE ALL SURFACES TO BE GLUED ARE CLEANED AND LET TO DRY BEFORE GLUING.

DOES THE INNER PIPE STICK OUT THE BACK END BY AT LEAST 1 FOOT OR MORE?

IF IT DOES NOT YOU WILL NEED TO GET A LONGER PIECE. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH FOR THE VALVE ASSEMBLY. WE WILL BE TRIMMING SOME OFF FAIRLY SOON.

NOW PUT GLUE ON THE INSIDE OF THE MUZZLE BUSHING (USE A LOT). USING A SMALL STICK REACH IN AND PICK UP THE PIPE SO IT LINES UP WITH THE HOLE AND HAVE SOMEBODY PUSH THE PIPE FROM THE BACK. YOU MIGHT WANT A RUBBER HAMMER HANDY IF IT DECIDES TO LOCK UP. MAKE THE INNER BARREL ABOUT A HALF-INCH OUT THE FRONT. IT WILL BE TRIMMED OFF LATER. NOW LET THAT SET UP AND HEAD TO THE BREACH END.

THE PIPE THAT IS STICKING OUT THE REAR END WILL GET CUT OFF DEPENDING ON WHAT VALVE YOU USE. WE WILL NEED TO DRY FIT THE VALVE PIECES TO GET A GOOD IDEA WHERE THE SMALL PRESSURE T WILL GET MOUNTED ON THE BACK. ONCE WE KNOW THAT DIMENSION WE CAN CUT THE EXCESS OFF THE INNER BARREL AND GLUE IN THE BACK REDUCER BUSHING AND THEN THE T. DO NOT PUT THE T ON WITHOUT THE BACK REDUCER BUSHING GLUED IN FIRST. WHEN GLUING THE BACK BUSHING IN YOU WILL HAVE GLUE ON THE INSIDE AND THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUSHING. TO HELP IT SLIDE WIPE GLUE OVER THE WHOLE END OF THE INNER PIPE WHERE THE BUSHING HAS TO SLIDE. PUT GLUE INSIDE THE HUB ON THE BIG T ALSO. HOLD IT IN PLACE WHILE WIPING ALL THE EXTRA GLUE OFF THE SMALL BARREL.

Valve Time

BELOW IS AN EXPLODED VIEW OF THE VALVE PARTS. NOW YOU CAN SEE WHY THE VALVE YOU USE CAN CHANGE THE LAST DIMENSION. CUT A SMALL STUB TO GO INTO THE TOP OF THE BIG T. MAKE IT LONG ENOUGH TO GO PAST THE PIPE STOP YOU CUT OFF BUT NOT SO LONG IT HITS THE INNER BARREL. AND LEAVE IT HIGH ENOUGH OUT THE TOP FOR YOUR VALVE. THE 90 DEG PRESSURE ELBOW WILL GET GLUED TO THE STUB. THE TRICK TO THIS VALVE AREA IS TO MAKE IT AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE FOR FAST AIRFLOW. CUT 2 SMALL STUBS TO GO FROM THE 90 DEG ELBOWS TO THE VALVE. MAKE SURE THESE 2 SMALL STUBS PUSH THE VALVE OUT FAR ENOUGH SO YOU CAN GET YOU SMALL T ON THE INNER BARREL PIECE THAT IS STICKING OUT. AND STILL BE LINED UP UNDER THE 2ND 90 DEG ELBOW

LOOK AT THE PICTURE BELOW. ASSEMBLE THE VALVE COMING OUT OF THE FIRST 90-DEGREE ELBOW. GLUE IT UP TO THIS POINT

NOW YOU NEED THE LAST SMALL T AND THE LAST 90 DEG ELBOW. AS YOU CAN SEE THE 2 PIPE STUBS THAT OUR POINTING OFF THE BACK OF THE GUN IS WHERE THESE GO.

MEASURE THE LENGTH OF THE SPACE BETWEEN THESE AND CUT A STUB TO GO BETWEEN YOUR LAST 2 FITTINGS. THE 2 PIPES COMING OFF THE GUN WILL BE SLIGHTLY STAGGERED IN LENGTH DO TO THE FACT THE SMALL T IS LONGER THAN THE 90 ELBOW.  CUT THESE PIPES SO THE LAST 3 PIECE SECTION WILL HANG SQUARE TO THE BACK OF THE GUN. ONCE YOU OUR SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT LENGTH.  LOOSE FIT THE SMALL T AND THE ELBOW AND THE PIPE THAT GOES BETWEEN THEM ONTO THE GUN. IF EVERYTHING LINES UP GLUE THE 3 PIECE SECTION TOGETHER FIRST AND GLUE THAT 3PIECE SECTION AS A WHOLE ONTO THE LAST 2 PIPE STUBS COMING OFF THE BACK OF THE GUN. IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE THE PICTURE THAT IS ON THE TOP OF THE NEXT PAGE. MAKE SURE YOUR VALVE OPENS AND CLOSES BEFORE THE GLUE SETS UP. JUST INCASE YOU GOT SOME IN

THERE, OPEN AND CLOSE IT A FEW TIMES JUST TO BE SURE.

THERE IS NOT MUCH LEFT NOW. JUST TO INSTALL THE BREACH, PRESSURE GAUGE AND THE SAFETY RELIEF VALVE. YOU WILL NEED TO COME UP WITH YOUR OWN CARRIAGE TO MOUNT IT ON. A GOOD BOOK TO GET IS CALLED "ROUND SHOT AND RAMMERS" BY HAROLD L. PETERSON. THAT BOOK WILL HELP.

LAST STEP GLUING THE BREACH

GET YOUR LAST PIECE THAT SHOULD BE A THREADED HUB. CUT A SMALL STUB THAT IS JUST LONG ENOUGH TO FIT BETWEEN THE COUPLING AND THE SMALL T AND GLUE IT INTO THE SMALL T AND THEN GLUE THE COUPLING ONTO THAT STUB. MAKE SURE TO WIPE ANY GLUE FROM THE INSIDE OF THE BARREL   BEFORE IT DRIES. IF YOU PLAN TO SHOOT STUFF OTHER THAN PAINTBALLS. LIKE VEGGIES AND SNOW BALLS YOU MIGHT WANT TO GO TO AN OUTSIDE THREAD ON THE BACK. I FOUND WITH THE INSIDE THREAD SNOW WOULD GET INTO THE THREADS AS I PUSHED THE BALL IN. SO RIGHT NOW I AM LOOKING FOR A FITTING THAT GLUES ON WITH THREADS ON THE OUTSIDE SO I CAN JUST SCREW THE CAP ON TO FIRE

ONCE THAT IS DRY AND THERE IS NO GLUE IN THE THREADS YOU MAY LOOSE FIT THE THREADED PLUG IN THE INTO THE BACK.

THE FINAL STEPS HERE ARE TO DRILL AND TAP TWO HOLES INTO THE TOP OF THE CROSS AND INSTALL A PRESSURE GAUGE AND A SAFETY RELIEF VALVE. I CHOSE THE CROSS-BECAUSE I BELIEVE IT IS THE STRONGEST PIECE IN THIS. IF YOU WANT TO MOUNT THEM REMOTE ON A PANEL AND JUST RUN YOUR AIRLINE TO THE CROSS GO RIGHT AHEAD. JUST MAKE SURE TO HARD PLUMB THEM IN SO THEY CANNOT BE JUMPED OUT OR OVER RIDDEN. THE PIPE HAS A GOOD PRESSURE RATING. I F YOU CHOOSE TO IGNORE THAT AND FILL THE CANNON WITH NO SAFETY DEVICES YOU WILL GET HURT. WHEN PLASTIC EXPLODES IT EXPLODES LIKE GLASS. AND YOU WILL GET HURT!!! THE PICTURE ON THE NEXT PAGE SHOWS THE RELIEF VALVE AND GAUGE LOCATION.

AIRLINES

SOME OF YOU WILL COME UP WITH BETTER IDEAS ON HOW TO REGULATE YOUR PRESSURE FOR FIRING. ON MY HPA TANK I HAVE A MANUAL VALVE THAT I OPEN SLOWLY SO NOT TO SPIKE THE BARREL. I THEN WATCH THE GAUGE FILL UP TO 20LBS. THIS IS WHERE YOU SHOULD TAKE YOUR FIRST SHOT. THIS IS TO BE SURE YOU HAVE AMPLE DISTANCE DOWN RANGE. A SHORT STORY ON VELOCITY. I DECIDED I WOULD SHOOT OUT A SNOWBALL TODAY. I HAD THE GUN LYING ON THE GROUND, IT WAS ELEVATED AT A 10 TO 15 DEGREE ANGLE. I USED A BICYCLE TIRE PUMP TO GET THE GUN UP TO JUST UNDER 30 PSI OF PRESSURE. BEHIND THE SNOWBALL I ROLLED UP A SMALL PIECE OF SOFT FOAM TO SEAL THE BARREL. I PUSHED THE LOAD IN PAST THE SMALL T. I REACHED BACK AND TURNED THE VALVE .IT WAS A SMALL POP AND I FIGURED IT WOULD JUST GO BOUNCING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY.  I WAS I LUCKY NOBODY WAS WALKING DOWN THE SIDEWALK AT THAT TIME. I LOOKED UP JUST IN TIME TO SEE THE SNOWBALL ON A DIRECT COURSE OF FLAT TRAJECTORY HEADING FOR THE NEIGHBORS HOUSE. LUCKY FOR ME IT HIT A TREE BRANCH ABOUT 12 FEET IN THE AIR ABOUT 60 YARDS AWAY AND JUST VAPORIZED.

I HAVE GOOD FEELINGS ABOUT THIS GUN. THE SOFT FOAM I ROLLED UP SO AS IT LEAVES THE BARREL IT UNROLLS AND CATCHES AIR AND STOPS ABOUT 30 FEET FROM THE GUN. IT COMES TO REST LIKE A LEAF FALLING FROM A TREE.

UNDER YOUR RELIEF VALVE INSTALL A T  SO YOU CAN HOOK UP AN AIR NIPPLE FOR FILLING OR HARD PLUMBING YOUR SUPPLY LINE IN. AS FOR WHAT TYPE OF LOADS TO USE THAT IS UP TO YOU. I HAVE GOOD LUCK WITH THE SOFT FOAM BEHIND THE PELLETS FOR THE PUSH OUT. I AM NOW WORKING ON LOADING THEM INTO TOILET PAPER ROLLS FOR PRELOADED SHELLS. I JUST TAKE A PLUNGER AND PUSH THE LOAD OUT INTO THE BARREL

IN FRONT OF THE SMALL T BEFORE I FIRE.  THEN I SET THE CARDBOARD TUBE ASIDE AND CLOSE THE CAP ON THE BACK.  AND LOOK DOWN RANGE FOR SAFETY AND PULL THE VALVE.

GOOD LUCK AND USE THIS WITH CARE!! STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES SO THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU FIRE IT. AND KNOW  WHAT YOUR TARGET IS.
